Unissant and C-HIT selected by CMS to support esMD modernization
C-HIT is pleased to announce that the CMS Center for Program Integrity (CPI) selected us, in partnership
with Unissant, to modernize and transform its Electronic Submission of Medical Documentation (esMD)
program.
C-HIT’s involvement with esMD extends to the very inception of the program, where C-HIT personnel
created the initial program requirements and standards, and then architected, designed, developed, and
implemented the esMD system and associated subsystem interactions, events, software components,
interfaces, data stores, workflows, and reports. C-HIT implemented secure, interoperable NwHIN and
DIRECT standards and X12 specifications to build a sustainable infrastructure for esMD, while
establishing strategic goals for system upgrade and scalability. C-HIT personnel were also responsible for
building and maintaining the esMD CONNECT Gateway and for restructuring the ONC CONNECT
Gateway application, the first production system across the CONNECT community.
“As part of Team Unissant, we look forward to leveraging a unique blend of health IT expertise,
technology thought leadership, esMD technical and business knowledge, and delivery excellence for
achieving CPI’s esMD program goals, while bringing innovation and efficiency within the CMS
enterprise,” stated Dr. Srivasavi Chaganti, C-HIT President and CEO.
